The CWGC is a highly respected, prestigious, global organisation that honours and cares for the men and women of the Commonwealth forces who died in the First and Second World Wars, ensuring their sacrifice will never be forgotten. Funded by six Commonwealth Member Governments, we build and maintain war memorials and cemeteries at 23,000 locations, in 150 countries, including some of the world’s most iconic, landmark monuments.

General Maintenance Operative, South Africa

We are an international organisation responsible for preserving cemeteries and memorials around the World, commemorating the sacrifices made by the Commonwealth forces during the two World Wars. 

We are looking for an experienced and practical technical person to support our Operations Supervisor in the inspection and carrying out of structural and horticultural maintenance of war graves and memorials throughout South Africa. 

To be successful you will be able to demonstrate the ability to solve problems, work as a proactive and positive member of a small team, be a confident and effective traveller and able to carry out a variety of maintenance tasks, to include, but not limited to; fixing headstones, repointing, erecting structures, e.g., fences, retaining walls, refurbishing bronze features and horticultural maintenance. You will also be effective at sourcing and purchasing local materials and also engaging and managing local labour as required.

TRAINEE Gardener - AUSTRIA

About this Role and You

The purpose of this position is to support our team in Klagenfurt and cover seasonal needs.

The main responsibilities include:

Assist with garden maintenance, supporting our skilled labourer in carrying out maintenance work such as weed removal, hedge trimming, mowing, etc. Assist with general maintenance activities at the cemetery.

Regional Horticultural Coordinator

The Canada, Americas and Pacific Area (CAPA) of the CWGC covers all of Canada, United States, the Caribbean, Central America, South America and the Falkland Islands (31 countries) in the CanAm Region and another 14 countries in the Pacific Region including China, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Fiji, Thailand, Singapore, and Myanmar. We are responsible for caring and maintaining 72,000 war graves, over 66,000 commemorations, 89 CWGC owned cemeteries and other sites with memorials, stones of remembrance and crosses of sacrifice.

About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Regional Horticulture Coordinator, who would be responsible for the upkeep of horticulture sites throughout CAPA by preparing and completing the horticulture plans, inspection plans, identifying maintenance and repair requirements, and overseeing the CWGC-compliant documentation needed to ensure remedial and maintenance work can be successfully completed.

What you'll be doing

We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic person to join our team of dedicated health and safety professionals. The health and safety team work globally to ensure that our colleagues go home safely and our visitors enjoy our cemeteries and monuments.

As a Health and Safety Advisor you will be the champion safety standards, working with colleagues to ensure that our Global Standards are put into place effectively.

You will travel extensively across Africa and other areas, putting in place action plans and ensuring training is developed and, where required delivered.

To be successful within this position you will ideally have experience within the amenity horticulture, construction or other similar industry. Demonstrating your technical knowledge in electrical safety and machinery safety you will raise standards of health and safety. You will be a proficient communicator with skills supporting a wide variety of stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.

Technical Supervisor Horticulture

About this role and you:

As our Technical Supervisor, you will be the champion of operational excellence and sustainability across all CWGC sites within your region. You will play a critical role in supporting the implementation of the Area Business Plan, ensuring that maintenance standards and horticultural practices are consistently met.

You will inspect the cemetery and memorial, organise and conducting regular site visits to ensure adherence to CWGC technical and Health & Safety standards. Your responsibilities will include the preparation and submission of detailed reports, work plans, and achievements against targets, ensuring that all maintenance and project work is completed to the highest standards.

Your expertise will support the effective delivery of routine horticultural maintenance, and you will take a proactive approach to resolving urgent horticultural issues as they arise.

To be successful in this position, you will have significant experience in horticultural management and maintenance within a complex, multi-site environment. You will be skilled in coordinating training programs for staff and contractors, ensuring consistency in the application of horticultural and Health & Safety practices. Your ability to manage projects, conduct risk assessments, and promote safe working practices will be essential in maintaining the integrity and sustainability of CWGC sites.

You will also be responsible for supporting the development of management skills among Head Gardeners, ensuring they are equipped to lead their teams effectively. As the regional lead for PUWER & CoSHH compliance, you will ensure that all legal requirements are met, contributing to the overall safety and sustainability of our operations.

Gardener Caretaker 1st Class

Location: MOBILE - Working around Harrogate and surrounding areas, covering the north region
Contract Type: Permanent, Full time.
Salary Range: £24,234 - £25,213 per annum, depending on skills and experience.
Hours: Monday to Friday, Average of 37 hours per week

What you’ll be doing

We are seeking a passionate and skilled horticulturalist to help maintain our iconic cemeteries. In this role, you’ll carry out a variety of tasks like mowing, hedge cutting, planting, turf maintenance, and pruning, while also ensuring the safe operation and maintenance of equipment.

Beyond horticulture, you’ll need to perform some basic administrative tasks, so being IT literate is helpful, but training would be given. You'll collaborate with other team members, and ensure each site remains a beautiful and respectful space.

The role requires you to travel around the north region, so a drivers licence is essential. Due to the nature of the role, regular overnight stays are required during peak season, of which we will cover costs.

Volunteer Coordinator (East)

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a talented and self-motivated Volunteer Coordinator to join our team based in our East Region to deliver our ‘Eyes On, Hands On’ volunteering project.

About this Role and You

The ‘Eyes on, Hands On’ project is a new venture which seeks to develop a volunteer network to link communities in the UK with the CWGC sites in their local area. In this role you will develop opportunities to use volunteers to support and supplement the care provided by regional operations staff to CWGC commemorations.

You will liaise closely with the local Regional Manager, in-place Volunteer Coordinators and your volunteers, building and maintaining partnerships with a wide range of volunteer organisations and associations, ensuring regular engagement. You will also build upon established good working relationships with external cemetery groups where opportunities exist in relation to the project.

To succeed in this role, you will have excellent communication, administration, presentation and networking skills, an empathetic nature and experience working with a diverse range of people. Technical Supervisor Horticulture

Location: Heliopolis Office, Egypt
Contract Type: Fixed Term Contract 1 year
Hours: Full Time, 40 hours per week

About this Role and You

As our Horticultural Supervisor you will be the champion of ensuring standards of maintenance are delivered consistently across all sites within Egypt. Lead in the on the management and maintenance of all irrigations systems, including developing plans to reduce water use across all cemeteries in Egypt.

Effectively manage the operational workforce, preparing and submitting reports following inspection visits to ensure horticultural standards set are within Performance Quality Management Systems.

To be successful within this position you will have extensive practical experience in a horticultural role, leading teams and practical on site project management with good budget management skills.

You will be a good communicator skilful at fostering and developing productive relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders. 

You will be an excellent motivator, capable of mentoring and encouraging your team to achieve their highest potential. Demonstrate the ability to work with a high degree of autonomy, organising work to meet deadlines set by others.

Country Manager - Malaysia

Who we are

CWGC’s Canada, Americas, and Pacific Area (CAPA) covers all of North, Central, and South America (31 countries) and another 10 countries in the Pacific Region including Malaysia, Japan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Philippines, Fiji, Thailand, Singapore, and Myanmar.  We are responsible for caring and maintaining 72,000 war graves, over 66,000 commemorations, 17 CWGC-owned cemeteries and other sites with memorials, stones of remembrance and crosses of sacrifice.

About this Role

As the Country Manager, you'll lead dedicated teams preserving war graves and memorials across over 30 sites throughout Malaysia, ensuring these monuments stand as eternal testaments to sacrifice and courage. This unique role blends team leadership and horticultural management expertise with diplomatic finesse. As the senior Country official, you’ll represent the CWGC and are responsible for ensuring health and safety of all staff, contractors, and visitors on site.
